The departure of Bulelani Ngcuka could herald more resignations within the National Prosecuting Authority.

According to NPA spokesperson Makhosini Nkosi, morale among staff was believed to be low since the resignation of National Director of Public Prosecutions Ngcuka.

"Nobody is celebrating, that's for sure. People are waiting for Ngcuka to get an opportunity to address them," he said.

Chief director of communications Sipho Ngwema would not confirm or deny whether he would be staying on at the NPA.

"I can't answer that question," was his response when contacted on Monday.

Ngcuka's resignation had not yet formally been accepted by President Thabo Mbeki, but he would "hopefully" leave before August, Ngwema said.
