The boardroom at the African National Congress headquarters, Luthuli House, in Johannesburg was packed on Monday, with extra seats brought in for a media briefing on the party's national executive committee meeting at the weekend.

Most publications sent at least two reporters for the expected story on how the party will deal with tension over former deputy president Jacob Zuma.

President Thabo Mbeki was scheduled to be at a function at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg at the time the briefing was to get underway.
