I am indebted to Judge Hillary Squires for his masterly summation of the arms deal in the Schabir Shaik judgment. For the first time, I think I understand what has been going on.

His explanation in simple terms of the legal aspects of the charges and the laws involved have been invaluable preparation for understanding the verdicts which are to follow.

The judge is to be congratulated for bringing an understanding of justice to the “common man”.
