All eyes on the police as the ANC and its allies hold off any change of heart towards Jacob Zuma until official confirmation of a rape charge and prosecution against him.

After a three-day central executive committee meeting, Cosatu is expected to reiterate its support for Zuma today, treating the rape allegation as a smear campaign.

Like the ANC, it is relying on the fact that there is no official police confirmation of charges and an impending prosecution.

After a similar marathon national executive committee meeting, the ANC yesterday reiterated that its top six leaders would monitor the situation.

"These are serious allegations that must be dealt with in terms of the law, by the appropriate institutions of the state. The ANC respects the rule of law, including the principle of presumption of innocence," the ANC said.

On Monday, ANC secretary-general Kgalema Motlanthe said the party was unable to pronounce on the matter until official police confirmation.

The ANC Youth League, which has been curiously mum *1, is expected to react on Sunday while the Young Communist League is expected to discuss the matter today.

*1  Also curiously mum are the Shaik Bros, who usually have a lot to say on anything regarding their Hero, Comrade Dr Zuma.

Also wonder what's to be said on their other hero, Comrade Commander "Mandla" Judson Khuzwayo (MJK) *2?

*2  RIP.
