Deputy President Jacob Zuma asked his followers on Saturday to continue supporting him at his court appearances.

He was speaking after appearing briefly in the Durban Magistrate's Court on corruption charges relating to his relationship with his friend and former financial adviser Schabir Shaik, who was convicted for fraud and corruption earlier this year.

Speaking in Zulu, Zuma explained the judicial process to the crowd, saying he was going to the high court and would appreciate their continued support.

He also asked for them to be disciplined and not repeat any incidents such as the one that happened at his previous court hearing when people burnt t-shirts showing the face of President Thabo Mbeki.

Standing on a podium with a microphone he then led the crowd singing "Mshini".

According to people in the crowd, the song implies "bring my machine gun" and was a struggle song dating back to the 1980s.

Zuma left in a black 4x4 escorted by the police.

The crowd continued to dance and sing. *1

*1  Of well, nobody can say that we haven't brought them one of the longest running soap opera in the history of SA - one sure to outdo them all in the long run.

But this one's going to lead to elephant tears, not crocodile tears.
