Regarding the rape allegations against former deputy president Jacob Zuma,
we must support the alleged victim. As we go into 16 days of activism against
abuse of women and children, surely we must support a woman who alleges to have
been raped.
The people of South Africa must lend both moral and psychological support
to the alleged victim - who has considered Zuma as a father.
If such allegations are true, it will be a great pity if Zuma engaged in
unprotected sex.
We hope Zwelinzima Vavi, Dr Blade Nzimande, Dr Zweli Mkhize and Fikile
Mbulula will not urge the public to support Zuma, who has long been constructing
his downfall. Cosatu, the SACP and the ANC Youth League should not attempt to
save Zuma's face.
We hope to see the ANC Women's League, women parliamentarians and
councillors rallying behind this woman. Attempts to persuade her to drop the
case must also be opposed. We dare not betray the victim.
