The absence of a value system among senior officials in this country is becoming increasingly apparent.
The words "I'm innocent until proven guilty" are repeated ad nauseam.
The plan of defence seems well-rehearsed: let your mouthpiece issue a denial, get the best legal minds taxpayers' money can buy, and dig your heels in.
Sooner or later, the public will grow tired of the affair, and you can get busy making the matter go away.
And if you're really canny, like Gerald Morkel, you can even reinvent yourself when the floor-crossing opens.
The fact that so many officials are engaged in legal battles is disturbing and does not bode well for attempts to expunge the stink of corruption from corridors of power.
