The simplest course of action from the president’s perspective is to state categorically that there is no warrant of arrest out for Jackie Selebi. This takes out the constitutional concerns of the present situation.
That he has not would seem to confirm that he cannot; the corollary of which is that there is such a warrant of arrest.
That all have been silenced, including the issuing judge and Vusi Pikoli, is disturbing and raises the question of what exactly the president and his coterie are trying to hide?
Is it just a question of protecting Selebi? Or does it go much deeper than this? A starting point for unravelling this conundrum would perhaps be to unravel the arms deal and get to the bottom of the various cashflows.
Who exactly were/are the main beneficiaries?
