ANC president Jacob Zuma and arms company Thint's boss Pierre Moynot took
their place in the dock in the
Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday morning in the next stage of the
state's attempt to prosecute them
for corruption.
Zuma greeted lawyers and ANC members present in the court to support him, after
having slipping into the court building through a back door.
Zuma seemed confident, with even a few laughs
*1 being heard as he chatted to Moynot while photographers snapped
pictures of the two.
ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe, KwaZulu-Natal premier Sbu Ndebele, the
province's finance MEC Zweli Mkhize and Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi
were among those present.
Supporters waiting in the rain outside the court would be treated to an address
by Zuma after his appearance, ANC spokesman Carl Niehaus
said.
Mantashe was also expected to speak at what the ANC had billed as an election
rally.
Zuma and Thint face a resumption of the arms deal-related corruption case the
state has been pursuing against them.
