Parliament on Tuesday officially removed Vusi Pikoli as national prosecutions chief as it endorsed President Kgalema Motlanthe's decision to dismiss him.

The National Council of Provinces sealed his fate when members voted in favour of a report by a parliamentary review committee that approved the dismissal, less than a week after the National Assembly did so.

Pikoli was expected to go to court later on Tuesday in a bid to be reinstated as head of the National Prosecuting Authority.
