Allegations of Involvement of Deputy President Jacob Zuma in Arms Deals

In response to media queries regarding the circulation of a document alleging the involvement of Deputy President Jacob Zuma in arms deals of World Wide Africa Investments Limited and other unmentioned ventures, the presidency wishes to put the following on record:

1. Deputy President Jacob Zuma has no financial interests in World Wide Africa Investments Limited (WAIL).

2. A significant stake of World Wide Africa Investment Limited is owned by Old Mutual, Sanlam and various founding members that include Prof. Wiseman Nkuhlu and Adv. Louis Skweyiya among others.

3. During his tenures as MEC for Economic Affairs in kwaZulu-Natal, Deputy President Jacob Zuma was briefed of various business ventures in the province by a variety of business groups. One such briefing included a presentation by Shabir Shaik, CEO of Nkobi Investments.

4. At no stage was the Deputy President requested to take a stake in any company owned by Shabir Shaik or those allegedly owned by Jay Naidoo or Cyril Ramaphosa.

5. The Presidency rejects any insinuation that Deputy President Jacob Zuma is implicated in shady arms deals. The Deputy President subscribes to the principles of transparency and openness in business deals.

6. Deputy President Jacob Zuma, as part of government, remains committed to combating crime and corruption in both the private and public sector without fear or favour.
