Adam:

An important story in the Mail & Guardian that hasn't been followed up is one on the question of possible bribery involving Deputy President, Jacob Zuma.

Nigel:

I don't know who wants to pick up this story but certainly it was quite a coup for the Mail & Guardian on Friday, Sam Sole being responsible for the article - and he's somebody who, as you know, appears regularly on this programme. But this question of Jacob Zuma, the Deputy President, and bribery of R500 million (sic) a year virtually in perpetuity as long as he will ease no investigations to this French arms deal supplier company. Have you had any wind of this previously, Jimmy?

Jimmy:

Well, I see that Sam Sole is referring in his article to a previous one run, I think, by City Press as the basis for this. He alludes that City Press touched on the matter but failed to name the Deputy President in the whole arms saga. I think, based on what the Mail & Guardian said, it would be fair to demand answers from government and from the highest authority in the land, the presidency. The presidency has to pronounce itself on this matter in order to put this thing to rest. I think it reflects quite badly on this. And I see that the Scorpions are unwilling to comment at this stage, saying the whole matter is sub judice.
